Pre-Exam Cravings

So it's T minus 5 days until exams start and I'm kind of stressing out, and when I say kind of, I mean completely and utterly losing it. I, unlike most normal human beings seem to become less motivated the closer that it actually gets to my exams - a lack of motivation and abnormally high levels of stress don't really float my boat. What with being stuck in the same room every day, trying to make some sort of sense of my coursework, my mind does tend to wander and crave the random. Call it pre-exam cravings if you will; all stress and no sense.

So today, whilst trudging my way through a stack of biochemistry lectures, I decided to keep a mental note of today's cravings, even though I'm supposed to be focusing all my mental capacities on those exam things - I'll probably (definitely) regret it later. Plus, this way, I give you a spot of light reading and confirm that I am still alive and well and haven't perished amongst a stack of textbooks and seemingly unnecessary anatomy terms that I'm supposed to be learning.

In no particular order, but all of equal importance, my pre-exam cravings today consisted of:

- A new brain: yup, I actually put that on this list. There's only so much more information this brain can take; ask me to recall any of that information and I may just spontaneously combust right in front of you.

-A mozzarella sticks delivery service: because mozzarella sticks are appropriate at all times of the day and I need a delivery service on speed dial that will bring them direct to my front door - all the tasty, cheesy goodness, all day long.

- A (local) gym membership: I think this one is partly due to the fact that I've been sitting in the one spot for quite some time, living off a diet of Easter eggs, but you can't say no to Easter eggs - they're part of a national holiday, it would just be rude. On a side note, I do actually have a gym membership for the gym at my uni, I'm just too lazy to make the hour long journey to get there now that the semester is over - cut me some slack, I'm disgusting, I know.

- Frozen fruit: it's like eating an ice lolly, but much healthier, so it would be completely justified if I got to shovel spoonfuls of this stuff into my face, whilst I question what possessed me to choose a physiology degree in the first place, right before the mental breakdown ensues.

- Bundles of blankets and pillows: I can't explain this one, studying just makes me want to get cosy and curl up in a big pile of duvets, blankets, pillows, cushions and any other soft material to hand - as if all of the comfy materials in the world can hide me away from my degree for a while - HA, I wish.

- Season 4 of The Walking Dead - this isn't so much of a craving, just a 'I need this in my life at this very second' kind of thought that passes through my head every other minute - quite the distraction. I bought the season 1-3 boxset earlier in the month and Drew and I made our way through it all in around 2 weeks (the first season only has 6 episodes, so we aren't awful human beings ok?) and conveniently, the fourth season doesn't come out on DVD until August. AUGUST. That is a whole lot of time to dodge spoilers and try and fill the apocalyptic shaped void in my life. On another side note, if you are one of those people who post spoilers on social media then shame on you, you are no friend of mine.

So yes, exams are driving me crazy and study season is my least favourite time of the year, but I shall leave you with the photo below, I feel it perfectly encapsulates me, me doing my degree, and my life at university in general.

Motivational Ramblings

So today has consisted of sitting at a desk, amongst a seemingly endless stack of work, trying to make some sort of dent in it. All that I've been able to think about recently is my university exams which are unfortunately looming and from there on, I begin to worry and panic endlessly about my future and what it is exactly that I want to do with my life.

Seriously, I envy all of you who can happily sit there and say "oh, I want to become a doctor" or "I'm going to set up my own business" and blah blah blah because really I am completely clueless. So, whilst I was sitting there today, in the middle of my very own existential crisis, with only biochemistry and physiology textbooks for company, I came across this little gem.


It was pretty motivational, for me at least. It is around this time of year that I presume 98% of students (myself included) across the globe feel the desire to completely give up on all things educational. I don't blame any of you. At all. We should all just hop on a plane together to somewhere warm and escape for a bit - the ultimate 'F- you' to all examination boards/institutions.

Unfortunately, this year my exam results actually count for something - ugh - so the next 6 weeks of my life consist of all day and night study sessions (yes, that's probably my sobbing that you can hear).

The way I see it, if I was to write a letter for myself to read in 10 years, it would probably just read

"I hope that you're happy with whatever and wherever you are just now." 

Because I guess that's all any of us can really ask for from life - to be happy and achieve all the goals and dreams that we've set for ourselves. We get stuck in this little rut at this time of the year - the weather starts to get nicer, nights get longer and getting out of bed in the morning gets a little harder; a full day of work on top of all that, along with one too many exams isn't exactly ideal.

I guess today's little motivational message for myself was to stick at it, to keep on working, even if I don't know what direction I'm headed in - work hard and the options are endless. It's cheesy but it's true. Just like the quote says:
 "Good things come to those who work their asses off and never give up".

Dear Netflix...

You sure know the way to a girl's heart don't you, you big, corporate, hunk of film and TV.

  • Thank you for always having my back on a Saturday night after work because everyone knows that a Saturday shift in retail is the equivalent of having to fight off Bigfoot and his Oompa Loompa army for 8 hours straight - it's a war zone out there.
  • Thank you for always asking who's watching when I sign in - I enjoy being able to keep my Gossip Girl binges to myself whilst still pretending that I've totally got my life together. Thanks Netflix, you're the best!
  • Thank you for that 15 second interval between episodes, allowing me to consider that I should probably be doing something productive with my life in the real world; at this point I usually log out and get on with my life. Ha..ha..who am I kidding? Those 15 seconds give me just the right amount of time to grab something to eat/drink before returning to the exact same spot that I've been sitting in for the past 3 hours and continue with the binge.


  • Thank you for continually confirming that it is ok to marathon and that I'm not just a lousy human being.

  • Thank you for skipping the whole "previously on..blah blah blah" when you start watching the next episode; lord knows that I've just watched 5 episodes in a row, I know EXACTLY what's going on, don't you worry.
  • Thank you for having every season of Gossip Girl and Dexter, a weird combination, I know, but nonetheless I am eternally grateful. Please never remove either from your wonderful service (I've seen all the episodes like 5 times, you don't want to ruin that streak do you?)   • Finally, thank you for being affordable - I share an account so all you ask of me once a month is the equivalent of a train ticket to town, and quite frankly, I would consider that the ultimate bargain.

32 Things That Make Me Happy

It's exam season, that time of year where I go into hibernation among a stack of textbooks and notepads, wearing hoodies and joggies, with that staple messy bun to top it off - EVERY single day. Ugh. It is around this time of year that I also realise  just how much I hate my degree.

However, after reading one of my favourite blogs, linked here I decided to take a break from all the studying and sit down and make a list of some of the things that make me happy, just like many other bloggers across this here internet. So here we gooooooo.


1. Freshly painted nails - yup, nothing better, currently sporting matte grey for all those interested

2. Candles and cosy nights - can you really think of a better way to spend cold, dull nights? Didn't think so

3. Netflix - no explanation necessary

4. Going shopping in town on sunny days

5. Walks in the countryside with my dog
- my last post has this covered

6. Photographs

7. Being in foreign countries
- makes me extra happy, evident below


8. A tidy bedroom

9. IKEA and their meatballs - interior design makes me happy but those meatballs? Good Lord, they are heavenly and if you haven't tried them, where have you been?!

10. Vanilla - all vanilla EVERYTHING

11. Acoustic versions of songs - particularly this one at the moment

12. Lazy Sunday's 

13. Orlando - I swear I left my heart here, it truly is the happiest place on earth



14. Decorating - I'm weird, I know - probably should put a disclaimer out about that

15. Lush bath bombs

16. That time of night when the sun begins to set and the sky gets all lazy

17. Campfires and roasted marshmallows

18. Dogs and puppies - especially this lump



19. Having somebody love you in the way that you love them

20. Mayonnaise on  chicken sandwiches - how could you even contemplate going without? Mayo is the way forward

21. Christmas - yup, I'm that guy, it's the most wonderful time of the year!

23. Payday - almost makes up for my crappy job, holla

24. Orange and Pineapple juice - damn, that stuff is good

25. Thunderstorms - conveniently, I live on the completely wrong side of the world for such things

26. Fresh bed sheets and shaved legs - men of the world, I feel sorry for you because you're really missing out

27. Driving on sunny days - it makes everything summery and just generally 100x better. If the sun is out then you cannot complain

28. Pinky promises - I'm 5 years old at heart, deal with it

30. Dancing - even though my stage has now just become my bedroom and my audience is non existent - the story's a couple of posts back if you're interested

31. Handwritten letters - there is nothing better, I'm telling you

32. Skinny jeans - they're just perfect for everything and make Caitlin one happy lady
